New FITCE.be board team elected

At the General Assembly of FITCE.be, which took place on Saturday 10 Juny 2023, a new board team was elected. The biggest change is that Raf Meersman steps down after 3 years to make place for Sofie Pollin.

Prof. Sofie Pollin obtained her PhD degree at KU Leuven with honors in 2006. From 2006-2008 she continued her research on wireless communication, energy-efficient networks, cross-layer design, coexistence and cognitive radio at UC Berkeley. In November 2008 she returned to imec to become a principal scientist in the green radio team. Since 2012, she is tenure track assistant professor at the electrical engineering department at KU Leuven. Her research centers around Networked Systems that require networks that are ever more dense, heterogeneous, battery powered and spectrum constrained. Prof. Pollin is BAEF and Marie Curie fellow, and IEEE senior member.

Raf Meersman has over 20 years of experience in developing and implementing software for automating network planning and design. Starting as a junior developer at Comsof in 1999, Raf took up various roles over time to become CEO and shareholder of the company in 2012. As CEO Raf grew the business into a global market leader for auto-design software, expanding from 10 to 60+ employees with an average 40% annual growth in revenue. Since 2020 Raf was also elected as a Board member for the FTTH Council Europe and is a frequent industry speaker.
